Gympie Special School provides learning opportunities based on the Australian Curriculum and individual student needs. To implement the curriculum, the school is organised into four sectors. Students from Prep to Year 10 (Early Years, Primary and Secondary) develop knowledge and skills in eight learning areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- The Arts
- Technology
- HPE
- Languages
Each student also has an Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP), targeting specific educational goals, and is reviewed every six months.
Curriculum planning is collaboratively reviewed and updated each term to ensure that units have a strong focus on developing the knowledge and skills students will need to embrace life long learning.
Year 11 and 12 (Senior) students work towards a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA), accessing work experience, Vocational Education, community engagement and the transition to post school options which may include work, volunteering and supported or independent living.
The area of work experience that the student engages with is aligned to their PATH (Planning Alternate Tomorrows with Hope) and SET Plans (Senior Education and Transition Plan).
