Differentiation Station

Learning looks different for everyone

With the diversity of student stage and ability in each of our classrooms, how do we keep our learning episodes up to date with where each individual student is at in their learning journey?

Without the supporting data collected over each semester, quite simply - we couldn't.

Every child has the right to a good education and at Gympie Special School it is our duty to make it available and accessible to all. A good education is not based on our opinions and what we think may be happening for our pupils at any given time. At Gympie Special, we have jumped head first into evidence based data collection so that each educator has a pathway to teaching to the complexities of individuals to enable them to access the Australian Curriculum in ways that are appropriate to their chronological age.

One of the unexpected benefits of this rollout has been the steep learning curve of our teaching and support staff as we all undertake professional development that allows us to take ownership of our results and to fully understand the purpose behind the various testing methods available.

By having a researched understanding of the way our students individually learn best, we can modify (differentiate) our teaching episodes to allow each child to engage in meaningful lessons that are appropriate to their stage of learning.
